Who we are
Back in 2001, students from the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Medicine saw the need for social supports in the local community surrounding HSC. They decided to target the neighbourhood youth as an early opportunity for healthy intervention, and thus created the Jacob Penner Park Drop-In Centre.
The program is currently run by a group of medical students in their early years of
training – two first year and two second year students, with most volunteer support is provided by other students at the Bannatyne campus (or Fort Gary campus).
We are committed to providing an environment that fosters mutual respect, consideration, honesty, and fairness. Volunteer staff acts as role models to demonstrate these virtues, and to help children develop skills that nurture a sense of self-worth that will serve them well throughout their lives.
